Join us for the American Battlefield Trust Park Day!
We will be gathering at the Coburn-Baker Cemetery, about 1.25 miles north of the AA Highway (KY 9) along KY 19 (Augusta-Chatham Road). This cemetery holds the remains of three, and possibly four, veterans - two from the American Revolution, one known Federal soldier from the American Civil War, and possibly one unknown Confederate, a casualty of the Battle of Augusta.
The cemetery is overgrown with honeysuckle, brush, and small trees. We will be removing as much of this overgrowth as we possibly can. Bring pruners, saws, and chainsaws if you are willing to use one. We will also need plenty of people helping to drag cut brush away.
Wear work clothes and bring gloves.
We will meet in front of the cemetery by 10:00 a.m. and knock off two to three hours later. Can’t make it at ten? Stop by later and help as you can. This is a volunteer effort, so work at your own pace and enjoy taking care of this cemetery.
Make it a day…have lunch at one of the great restaurants in the heart of Augusta. Stop for a glass of wine at the Baker-Bird Winery. Enjoy the view of the Ohio River from along the shore. Enjoy the shops along Main Street.
