Confederate Soldiers Buried in Bracken County
The following list is not a definitive accounting, but over the last few years, using various sources (Maysville and various Bracken County newspapers, census records, and compiled military service records), along with using the Bracken County Historical Society’s Bracken County Cemeteries and Burial Sites, 1796-1999, we’ve been able locate more Civil War veterans buried within the county (bringing the total to two hundred fifty-two), including forty-two that served in the Confederate Army.

The men listed in the 7th Kentucky Mounted Infantry Battalion were mostly recruited during Richard M. Gano’s occupation of Maysville that occurred a short time before the Augusta fight. The unit was originally the 7th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment, but Confederate units, particularly cavalry, were often reorganized into battalions and/or mounted infantry units.
