Wreaths Across America

Civil War Augusta held its first Wreaths Across America event on December 18th. We had member of a few different groups attend and volunteer to lay wreaths on the forty veteran buried in Payne Cemetery in Augusta. Members of the V. F. W. honor guard were their to fire a salute and play Taps, which echoed nicely across the cemetery and the town below.

Augusta local Taylor Kelsch provided the attendees the history of the cemetery, and after the ceremonies were complete, volunteers scrambled down to place the balsam wreaths. Members of the Charles H. Lee Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans placed a wreath on the Confederate monument. We do plan on doing this event again next year, so we hope you will join us or at the very least sponsor a wreath!
